Introduction to Pottery Museum
Pottery Museum or Sarraflar House is one of the ancient and traditional museums of Tabriz. It is interesting to know that this museum is a place for keeping and also teaching pottery making. The objects in this house are placed in a way to show the process of making pottery from soil with a device. Also, in this house, you will have the opportunity to watch or make pottery. This museum is one of the few museums where people will get acquainted with the historical course of pottery and will have the experience of making one of this pottery.
One of the oldest surviving arts from antiquity is Persian pottery. The art by which, not only a daily need of human is made, but also an artistic work is created.
History of Sarraflar House
Before the house was turned into a pottery museum, it was the home of the Sarraflar family during the Qajar era. Later, it was purchased by the Alavi family. That’s why it was called Alavi House for some time. This house was repaired and renovated in 2000, and in 2005, the usage changed to a house-museum of pottery.
Architecture of Pottery Museum
Sarraflar House has stunning architecture. One of the charms of this house is its head. At first glance, we encounter a clay plate. Upon entering the courtyard, we face a turquoise pond surrounded by trees and flowers. After crossing the yard, we reach the house building, which has a white and pleasant view. The structure of this building shows the conflict between tradition and modernity in such an attractive way. We can see the splendor of Persian architecture in the spectacular parts of the house.
The Sarraflar House is built on two floors, the ground floor and basement. The basement includes a pool house, two main rooms, a rectangular room, and a corridor where artists and students perform here. Light bricks are used to decorate the monument. These light bricks make it somewhat different from other houses in Tabriz. This part is the place in which the pottery and works of artists are shown.
