Introduction to Zagros Paleolithic Museum

Museums are places to narrate the history of a place. You are able to see objects from different periods of ancient times. Some modern museums deal with specific topics. But it is rare for a museum to keep objects from a specific subject. Paleolithic Museum is a fully specialized museum in the field of prehistory in Kermanshah province. Zagros Paleolithic Museum is known as the first Paleolithic museum in the Middle East, and is also placed in the category of specialized museums round the world. Due to the existence of many Paleolithic sites in the Zagros region, Paleolithic Museum is established in Kermanshah City. This museum, located in Tekiyeh Biglerbegi, is one of the outstanding architectural works in the city.

The mother of museums

Paleolithic museum is considered as a mother museum due to the existence of tools such as mother stones, handicrafts, the presence of stones and oxidizing blades and the modeling of human skulls from the Stone Age, which is related to one hundred thousand years ago.

Different sections of the Paleolithic Museum

The museum examines Paleolithic artifacts in four different sections. Artifacts from the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods that are related to (8,000 years ago to 100,000 years ago). Lorestan is exposed to tourists.

The First room of Zagros Paleolithic Museum

This section is dedicated to stone tools, their construction, and how they were made by the first humans. You will also see simulated examples of a Neanderthal man living in Persia and the Middle East. These models are made in real size from the first humans by a group of sculptors created under the supervision of Dr. Fereydoun Bigleri. The presence of these sculptures, showing a frame of 3 Neanderthals carrying dead bodies of their hunt, has made this museum one of the specialized museums, which deals with the prehistory of mankind around the world. It should be noticed that, since making such models is very technical and sensitive, only a handful of world-famous museums have succeeded in displaying plausible examples of these extinct humans.

The Second room

The second part of the museum is dedicated to fossils, bones of humans and animals, some human skulls found in well-known archeological sites of Europe and the Middle East, and also a collection of fossils discovered in Vazmeh cave.
