History of Alaviyan Dome

According to the technical identity of the monument, Alaviyan Dome is one of the structures belonging to the late Seljuk period in the 6th AH century, which was first built by the Alavi family as a mosque, and in later periods, by creating a crypt in the basement, became the tomb of that family.

At first, the Alavi family built this monument as mosque in the 6th AH century. After the addition of a crypt in the basement and the burial of two members of this family, who were very much loved by the people,Alaviyan Dome became their tomb. For this reason, this structure is known as the “Alavi Family”. The monument also included a dome in the past that collapsed due to worn texture, although its walls remain intact.

Architecture of This Dome

According to the archaeologists’ researches, the Alaviyan Dome is known as an evolved Mongol or Seljuk structure. This monument has always been of special interest to researchers for various reasons, including its unique physical features, elegance and exceptional decorations. For various reasons, including its unique physical features, elegance and exceptional decorations, Alaviyan Dome has always been special to researchers.

The plan of the Alaviyan Dome is quadrangular and each corner includes star-shaped edges. The walls of this tomb remain to the starting line of the dome, but the dome itself has collapsed and has been destroyed. The General Directorate of Archeology in 1317 AH repaired and restored this monument and arranged a wooden cover and a roof for it. This brick tomb is built above ground level and, like other similar quadrangular tombs, sits on a platform. This platform is actually the lower floor of the tomb. In front of the entrance door of this tomb, 9 stone steps can be seen. On the outer margin of the frame, there are plastered inscriptions containing verses from the Holy Quran in Kufic script. This dome has been renovated several times over the years.
